The Dean’s Office within the College of Liberal Arts (CLA) serves the college, its departments, and programs in a variety of ways. The Communications team executes on marketing and communications initiatives for the college related to recruitment, fundraising , and branding. The Communications team assists and trains departments on social media, communication strategy, event marketing, and website content.

More than 33,000 students, including 3,000 graduate students, attend Colorado State University, which is recognized as one of the West’s premier research institutions. The CSU Online division currently boasts more than 5,000 students. The Carnegie Foundation classifies Colorado State as a doctoral-granting institution with dominance in the sciences, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). Position Summary:

The Social Media and Video Specialist position must be a strategic thinker with a passion for social media, a creative mindset, someone who is a strong collaborator and has a history of building successful social media strategies, videos, and campaigns. Must be a dynamic go-getter who is creative and innovative with a strong work ethic.

This position supports the College of Liberal Arts’ social media and video presence and strategy (paid and organic) through content creation, community management and engagement, and reporting. The position requires excellent attention to detail, organizational, analytical, and copywriting skills, as well as strong problem-solving and time management abilities. The Social Media and Video Specialist position must put a high bar on creative excellence (including imagery/video and social copy/captions) – and feel comfortable advocating with partners to implement channel best practices. Must have a passion for figuring out what’s next, what’s possible, and what delivers return on investment in social media.

The position reports to the Director of the Communications and is part of the college communications and recruitment team, located within the Dean’s Office. The position will work collaboratively with department communicators to identify and execute on goals via a strategic decision-making process.

This is not a long-form, documentary style film position. The focus is on short-form, social-first video.

Because this position requires on-site photography and videography, the position requires an in-office presence at least 3 days a week and additional days for events and special circumstances, otherwise 1-2 days can be remote work.

Required Job Qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, marketing, or related field.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in managing social media accounts for a brand or organization, and producing still and video content.
  • Fluency in using established social networks (Facebook, Instagram, X/Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube) and social media management tools (such as Sprout Social, Later, etc.)
  • Strong video editing skills both in-app as well as with editing software such as Final Cut Pro, CapCut, Adobe Premiere or comparable software application.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; strong copywriting and copy-editing skills.
  • Impeccable time management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects at a time.
  • Detail-oriented approach with ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrated experience working with a team on concepts, storyboards, and campaigns.
  • A strong portfolio required.

Preferred Job Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience with graphic design and photography editing programs (such as Adobe Photoshop).
  • Demonstrated ability to think creatively and innovate, with a strong understanding of the latest trends and developments in the social media space.
  • Knowledge of digital marketing (Paid Social/SEO/Google PPC).
  • A good understanding of what’s trending within the social media landscape.
  • Able to work beyond the desk to seek out photo and video opportunities on campus and at events.
  • Strong analytical skills and knowledge of Google trends.
  • Experience following and creating materials using brand guidelines.
  • Familiarity with web accessibility standards and tools and techniques to make social media content accessible for all users.

  • Manage CSU Source backend to post stories. Identify compelling stories to share with CSU News & Media Relations.
  • Track CLA press mentions and earned media.
  • Work with students, alumni, and faculty to create written and visual content for use across multiple platforms.
  • Identify and execute on opportunities for video, digital storytelling, and other innovative ways to tell stories.
  • In collaboration with Director of Communications, create and maintain content strategy calendar for print and digital platforms.
  • Manage college social media accounts, creating campaigns and supporting story promotion.
  • Collaborate with department communicators to develop and publicize digital content.
  • Create, repurpose, and post content on social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, LinkedIn, Flickr, YouTube).
  • Attend the CSU social media committee meetings.
  • Manage the CLA social media committee meeting.
  • Track social media analytics and prepare bi-annual reports.

  • Using organization-provided cell phone and other video/photo equipment, identify topics to film, film, edit, and finalize videos that help advance the college’s efforts in recruitment, retention, and reputation.
