Pay Rate/Range: The budgeted hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $28.07 to $30.00/hour. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience; the budget for the position; and the application of fair, equitable, and consistent pay practices at the University. The full hourly range for this position is $28.07 to $48.28/hr.

Work Location: Student Affairs & Administrative Services Building, Room 2201

Working Days and Hours: Monday – Friday; 8:00am-5:00pm

Type of Remote or Hybrid Work Arrangement if Applicable: Upon successful completion of the probation period, a hybrid work schedule (1 day remote, 4 days in-person) may be considered and must be approved by the supervisor. Department Marketing Statement

The UCSB Education Abroad Program/Capital Internship Program provide advising and outreach services to a large student population each year. The department sends more than 1,000 students overseas, receives approximately 300 international reciprocal exchange students, and supports reentry and cultural adjustment of returned students. UCSB EAP advises for 40+ countries offered by the University of California Education Abroad Program (UCEAP). In addition, the department provides advising, outreach and support for students interested in participating in the University of California Washington (UCDC) and the University of California Center in Sacramento (UCCS).

Brief Summary Of Job Duties

Under the general supervision of the Associate Director, plans and creates marketing/outreach and communications materials, and yearly marketing plan for the UCSB Education Abroad Program and Capital Internship Program. Collaborates on the development of marketing ideas with the EAP/CIP staff. Produces print and digital material from idea conception to completion. Responsible for general office administrative duties

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
  • 1-3 years marketing and outreach experience.
  • Strong communication and analytical skills.
  • Willingness to learn new graphic design tools as needed.
  • Strong understanding of marketing trends among the college student cohort.
  • Proficiency in social media knowledge and ability to learn/improve one’s expertise of this marketing medium.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Strong attention to detail for marketing projects and administrative duties.
  • Ability to multitask throughout the year.
  • Ability to be collaborative, seek feedback, and implement suggestions as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 1-3 years marketing/outreach experience in higher education.
  • Strong graphic design skills utilizing products like the Adobe Creative Suite.

Job Functions And Percentages Of Time

  • 85% Marketing and Communications – Collaborates with the Director and Associate Director to create and implement a comprehensive marketing plan for the UCSB Education Abroad Program and Capital Internship Program. Provides insights and suggestions for innovative marketing strategies. Plans, develops and evaluates marketing and communication methods to ensure that goals are achieved. Solicits feedback and recommendations from the EAP/CIP team. Creates and executes strategy to cross-market EAP and CIP. Learns about the EAP/CIP program details and process. Develops, creates, maintains, and writes text for a wide variety of marketing collateral that includes but is not limited to general and major specific e-newsletters, flyers, posters, brochures, blogs, videos, social media and campuswide outreach emails. Collaborates with staff on programs that need additional visibility and creates marketing content for these. Creates and disseminates content that is digestible and understandable for specific audiences. Utilizes a variety of graphic programs (including Adobe products and Canva) and visual content (text, infographics, photographs, quotes, etc) to achieve these goals. Administers the annual photo contest and curates a large photo collection to be used for outreach purposes. Takes photos and videos at relevant campus EAP/CIP events. Ensures all multimedia materials maintain a cohesive design and messaging, is inclusive and represents the diversity of the EAP/CIP programs and UCSB. Solicits and implements feedback as appropriate from EAP/CIP staff and as needed utilizes student focus groups to ensure outreach materials are relevant and attractive for students to read. Researches and recommends new and innovative marketing tools to improve upon systems currently in place. Monitors marketing/communication trends on social media. Creates effective social media content that appropriately represents EAP/CIP. Actively maintains the EAP/CIP presence on relevant social media channels. When needed, creates videos from conception to posting on YouTube/social media– includes videotaping, interviewing students, editing and implementing feedback from staff. Updates the EAP/CIP websites as needed. Organizes and creates the quarterly outreach/events calendar. Posts events on Shoreline and public calendars. Creates, orders and coordinates swag items, when the budget allows. Evaluates marketing campaigns by utilizing data analytics provided by media platforms, websites, and QR code tracking systems. Creates analytics reports for the department. Reviews data and adjusts marketing strategy as applicable. Learns about the needs and challenges of our students and campus partners, and creates educational marketing content to assist in these areas. These include partners in both the academic and student services departments. Collaborates with campus partners on cross-marketing efforts. Implements marketing strategy within the allotted marketing budget.
  • 15% General Administrative Duties – Submits and tracks room reservations and media keys for meetings and outreach events. As applicable, coordinates additional logistics or event needs such as food, furniture, etc. Supervises a marketing student worker, assigns tasks and ensures completion of their tasks. Holds a FlexCard to be used for departmental marketing, event purchases and office needs. Represents UCSB EAP on the UCEAP Systemwide Marketing Committee and Study Abroad Fair Committee. Manages the graduation stoles ordering process for EAP. When requested, serves as the back-up receptionist or assists in shadowing student workers at the reception desk. When requested, answers the reception desk phone and responds to emails that come in through the general office email account. Using proficient understanding of EAP/CIP program information provides initial general front-line advising at the reception desk and tabling events. Assists as needed with the UCEAP application process which may include tracking missing items, emailing students, and compiling data among other things. Sends out mass emails to students as requested. Liaises/communicates with key campus departments in regards to our participant lists for the Registrar, Student Health and Office of Student Conduct; maintains accurate and current participant lists and provides updates to these offices. Oversees the retroactive petition process. Assumes responsibilities for other positions as vacation schedules, staff vacancies, furloughs and peak workload periods require.
