Princeton University is seeking a talented and motivated Marketing and Design Specialist to support its innovation programs.
The marketing and design specialist is a key contributor on the Innovation Office’s Communications and Engagement team. The specialist leads development and execution of an integrated marketing plan across the Innovation Office, including Strategic Partnerships and Engagement, Technology Licensing and New Ventures, and Infrastructure and Programs. Responsible for visual communications/design, digital, social media, email, events, and more. The specialist is adept at working with and understanding the perspectives of academics, nonprofit professionals, industry leaders, and entrepreneurs.
The specialist reports to the sr. associate director of innovation communications in an in-person role, with opportunities for occasional remote work.
Responsibilities
Primary Marketing Strategy
- Develop and implement comprehensive marketing plans for various innovation programs.
- Collaborate with program directors and team members to align marketing efforts with program goals and objectives.
- The specialist develops, directs and executes efforts to extend the reach of Princeton’s innovation initiatives to businesses, industry, government locally, regionally, nationally, and internationally. The manager oversees the creation of compelling messaging and collateral that effectively communicate the objectives of the Innovation Office, to multiple audiences, on and off campus.
- The specialist searches regularly for new ways to bolster Innovation Office messages to prospective external partners.
Content Development
- Create compelling and relevant content for websites, social media, newsletters, press releases, and other communication channels. This includes a range of content from fliers and posters to articles about Princeton innovators and their journey and successes.
- Ensure content is engaging, accurate, and aligns with the program’s messaging and brand guidelines.
Event Marketing
- Develop marketing strategies to promote events, workshops, and other program activities.
- Coordinate with event organizers to maximize outreach and participation.
Digital Marketing
- Manage the digital presence of innovation programs, including webpages, social media accounts, email marketing campaigns, and content management systems.
- Optimize digital marketing efforts to increase engagement and reach.
Brand Management
- Uphold and promote the brand identity of Princeton University’s innovation programs.
- Ensure consistency in branding across all marketing materials and communications.
Design Direction
The specialist creates or directs others to create illustrations and layouts for social media posts, web pages, on-screen presentations and print publications. These can include advertisements in event programs, slide decks, banners, signs, fact sheets, annual and quarterly reports, etc
Qualifications
Essential Qualifications:
- Minimum three years of professional experience in Marketing and Design.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to articulate complex ideas clearly and persuasively.
- Strategic thinking with a data-driven approach to decision-making and problem-solving.
- Proficiency in marketing platforms, CRM systems, and analytics tools.
- Competent computer skills, with basic knowledge of photo editing, Canva, Adobe Creative Cloud, and Microsoft PowerPoint or similar presentation platforms.
- Demonstrated understanding of social media channels including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn, and TikTok.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in industry or academia
- Familiarity with Princeton University, its culture and its research and innovation initiatives
- Familiarity with business, industry, and government in the State of New Jersey and the mid-Atlantic region.
- Experience managing social media channels for a higher education institution, brand or nonprofit.
- Experience assigning and working with freelance photographers and graphic designers.
