We are seeking a results-driven and collaborative Director of Marketing in the Office of Strategic Communication and Marketing to lead the university’s comprehensive marketing strategy in support of enrollment growth, brand visibility, and institutional reputation. The Director will provide strong, hands-on leadership and supervision for the marketing team; ensuring clear communication, collaboration, and accountability across all functions. The role requires both strategic vision and operational excellence, guiding staff in delivering high-quality, data-driven results that reflect institutional priorities and uphold the SUNY Plattsburgh brand. Reporting to the Chief of Staff and Director of Executive Communications, this position develops, oversees, and evaluates the design and execution of integrated marketing initiatives spanning digital, print, web, social media, and video. The Director will serve as the marketing lead on campus, aligning campaigns with recruitment priorities across undergraduate, graduate, transfer, online, international, and Queensbury campus audiences. The Director will also collaborate closely with the Office of Academic Affairs to elevate program visibility and differentiation, develop and lead new program launches, promote academic excellence, and strengthen connections between academic offerings and student demand.
Responsibilities are expected to include, but are not limited to: Collaborating with SUNY System Administration marketing leadership to align campus initiatives with system-wide campaigns, messaging priorities, and brand standards; engaging with marketing counterparts across other SUNY campuses to foster collaboration, share insights, and strengthen Plattsburgh’s connection to the broader SUNY network; conducting ongoing competitor and market analysis to identify emerging trends, assess positioning, and inform strategic decision-making; supporting marketing budget planning and reporting, ensuring fiscal accountability, efficient vendor management, and alignment between investments and institutional goals; leading efforts to unite enrollment and academic marketing, developing a cohesive institutional strategy that prioritizes appropriately and is built through active collaboration with essential campus stakeholders; identifying and support marketing needs across all five key divisions – Academic Affairs, Enrollment and Student Success, Administration and Finance, Institutional Advancement, and Diversity, Equity and Inclusion – working effectively with both division leadership and project-level staff to prioritize and coordinate marketing efforts and advance shared goals; and leading a data-informed marketing approach by establishing key performance indicators, interpreting analytics across all channels, and using actionable insights to guide strategy, optimize campaigns, and evaluate return on investment, ensuring the Director can independently assess effectiveness and steer institutional marketing decisions.
