Required Qualifications (as Evidenced By An Attached Resume)

Bachelor’s degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in Marketing, Communications, Digital Media and/or a related field. Four (4) years of full-time experience in marketing, digital marketing, project management, digital strategy, and/or related areas. Management experience. Demonstrated experience developing, implementing, and evaluating multichannel digital marketing strategies. Experience with Adobe Creative Suite. Experience working with content management systems (CMS), such as WordPress and/or Modern Campus/OmniUpdate. Experience using project management tools such as Monday.com.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree (foreign equivalent or higher). Experience in higher education, nonprofit, and/or healthcare environments. Additional years of full-time experience in marketing, digital marketing, project management, digital strategy, and/or related areas. Experience working with SEO best practices and content optimization. Experience with social media monitoring platforms (such as Sprout). Experience planning, executing, and analyzing paid social and digital advertising campaigns.

Brief Description Of Duties

The Associate Director, Digital Marketing plays a key role in advancing Stony Brook University Advancement’s mission by leading the division’s digital strategy in support of university and Advancement priorities. This role oversees Advancement’s digital channels, including websites, email marketing, organic and paid social media, and digital advertising, and uses data to continually assess and improve performance. The Associate Director partners closely with Advancement Marketing and Communications colleagues, key Advancement teams, and campus partners to support Stony Brook University Advancement’s goals.

  • Create and implement short-, medium- and long-term digital marketing strategies that enhance engagement of alumni and other constituencies, as well as the cultivation, conversion, stewardship and retention of donors. Work with Advancement Marketing and Communications colleagues and in collaboration with other teams across the division and university to create, manage and execute a strategic digital multichannel marketing calendar to support new and existing initiatives. Partner closely with key Advancement units, including Constituent Experience (Alumni Relations and Events, Annual Giving, Donor Experience), Development, Gift Planning, Foundation Relations and Corporate Relations, to identify program goals, set and execute marketing strategies that advance these goals, and measure and report results.
  • Supervise staff members of the Advancement digital marketing team.
  • Supervise the execution of the Advancement division’s comprehensive email marketing calendar as well as its social media calendar for Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, X, and future platforms. Conduct regular social media monitoring to identify and influence trends, interests, and sentiments, and elevate concerns.
  • Serve as lead for management of all Advancement web properties. Liaise with and manage external vendors to continually refresh content with a focus on search engine optimization, user experience and other best practices for websites.
  • Collect and analyze relevant digital communications/marketing data. Report results and recommendations for improvements to key stakeholders on a regular basis.
  • Serve as Advancement liaison for digital marketing with counterparts in University Marketing and Communications and across campus.
  • Actively research digital trends, tools, and best practices and regularly assess Advancement’s digital tools and systems. Make recommendations and support implementation of improvements to ensure Advancement employs effective, current, and innovative digital strategies.
  • Other duties or projects as assigned as appropriate to rank and departmental mission.

Special Notes

This is a full-time appointment. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Minimum salary threshold must be met to maintain FLSA exemption.

In addition to the employee’s base salary, this position is eligible for $4,000 UUP annual location pay, paid biweekly.
