Florida A&M University’s Office of Communications is pleased to announce the acceptance of qualified applications for the Assistant Director, University Press (University Publications & Strategic Events) (Working Title: Assistant Director, Marketing) vacancy. This position reports to the Vice President, Chief Marketing & Communications Officer.

Responsibilities

Under the direction of the Vice President, Chief Marketing & Communications Officer, this position will conceptualize, lead and execute strategic marketing campaigns that drive community relevance with an emphasis on innovative digital promotion strategies and create content for internal and external University communications. This position has oversight over the Graphic Designer and Marketing Manager.

The Assistant Director manages the brand identity for the University; Oversees the division’s email communications to stakeholders; Oversees the standardization of the divisional web presence; Enhances the division’s marketing and communications, and undertakes other duties as assigned; Leads marketing communications efforts and analyzes marketing strategies, market penetration, share of voice, etc. to determine ROI and inform future planning; Defines and monitors advertising content and promotional messages, ensuring the goals of the member or department are communicated consistently through brand management; and serves as a cross-functional marketing advisor focused on lead generation for high impact/priority activities and opportunities.

Manages the development and delivery of a communications time-line, publications schedule to the University, working with graphic design and marketing staff to implement brand management processes and protocols; Proofs and fact-checks copies; Updates the University’s editorial style guide, based on industry editorial standards and University policy; Oversees and manages all aspects of production of multiple University publications, banners and fliers to ensure that quality expectations are met; Coordinates relationship with vendors to negotiate the most economical printing cost and delivery time; Approves printers’ blue lines and/or color proofs; Designs, implements, and upkeeps brand management guidelines, protocols and provides training to University staff; and maintains and enforces the University logo guidelines, trademarks and distribution of appropriate logo files to licensed vendors and others.

Facilitates internal campus communication to faculty, staff and students via Daily Venom and other platforms; Writes promotional copy, feature stories, headlines and additional editorial content as needed for university print and online publications, events, speeches, etc. Develops, oversees and maintains University protocol for managing Canvas templates or equivalent system used to produce collateral; Attends project concept meetings to provide input to the communications team and internal and external clients; Travels as needed for University and community events; Manage budget for which this position is accountable; Interact professionally with all internal and external customers using strong interpersonal skills; and perform other related work duties and responsibilities as directed by supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization and four years of related experience; or master’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization and two years of related experience.

Ability to think strategically and execute tactically; a mix of high-level strategy and planning and on-the-ground tactical execution is required to be successful in this role;

Ability to work adeptly in a constantly evolving digital environment;

Excellent written and oral presentation skills, sound judgment, political sensitivity, strong collaborative instincts and knowledge or digital medial tools;

Managerial, supervisory and organizational skills;

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships; and,

Responsible for utilizing all department communications software (Asana, Design Conductor, etc.)

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, English, business, public relations or a related field.

At least 7 years of progressive experience in marketing strategy, brand management, or a related discipline.

Pay Plan

This is an Administrative and Professional (A&P) position.

Schedule

Daily schedule from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; 40 hours a week. May be required to work outside of business hours and on weekends based on the business needs of the department.
