Position Summary

The Assistant Director, Direct Marketing is a valuable member of the Annual Giving Direct Marketing team in the Office of University Advancement at William & Mary.

The Assistant Director, Direct Marketing is responsible for the planning and management of the Phonathon program at William & Mary, which includes managing vendor relationships, hiring and managing student workers, data analysis, strategy and reporting. In addition to their phonathon duties, the Assistant Director oversees and supports one to three units with their annual giving direct marketing efforts.

The Assistant Director reports to and partners with the Senior Associate Director of Direct Marketing to develop annual program projections and objectives and coordinate the phoning calendar. They collaborate with colleagues to develop strategies and deliver tele-fund raising services for constituent area programs and recommend changes and enhancements to maximize program potential.  The Assistant Director’s data management responsibilities include developing and tracking metrics, as well as analyzing data to adjust calling strategies as needed.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent combination of education, training and or experience.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusiveness, including, but not limited to, collaboration, staffing and programming.
  • Experience motivating or leading student employees (typically 2 years).
  • Substantive experience working in a fundraising or telemarketing position meeting fundraising goals (typically 2 years).
  • Strong working knowledge of fundraising and telemarketing principles.
  • Solid proficiency with MS Office Suite and database management.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to retrieve analyze and report on findings.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and resolve problems using sound judgment when making recommendations or decisions.
  • Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, with the ability to supervise, motivate student employees and or volunteers.
  • Strong organization and planning skills with the proven ability to initiate, organize and follow through with program plans.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities concurrently within strict deadlines.
  • Desire to take initiative and develop creative solutions to assist with overall fundraising objectives for the university.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Working knowledge of specialized CRM software (e.g., BlackBaud CRM, CampusCall or RNL Engage).
  • Strong skills in report writing and copy editing.
  • Report writing experience.
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Experience working in a fundraising environment within higher education or other nonprofit environment.
  • Demonstrated project management experience in higher education or a related field.

Advertised Pay Range

$45,000 to $47,500
