The Assistant Vice President of Marketing serves as Maryville University’s senior marketing leader and a key strategic partner within the Strategic Enrollment and Marketing Division. This role leads an integrated, data-informed marketing organization that drives enrollment growth, net tuition revenue, and long-term brand strength. The AVP ensures that Maryville’s mission and student-centered values are reflected across every touchpoint while developing and executing strategies for institution-wide branding, marketing, and communication. This includes supporting enrollment, alumni engagement, development, public relations, and creative initiatives.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Strategic Marketing Leadership
    • Develop and execute a comprehensive marketing and brand strategy to support near-term enrollment outcomes and long-term institutional reputation, trust, and differentiation goals aligned with Maryville’s strategic plan.
    • Serve as a strategic partner to enrollment leadership, driving demand generation, inquiry growth, conversion optimization, yield, and net tuition revenue across undergraduate, graduate, online, and workforce programs.
  • Digital and Performance Marketing
    • Lead digital and performance marketing efforts, including website strategy, paid media, SEO/SEM, CRM-integrated campaigns, and conversion rate optimization.
    • Establish, monitor, and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) tied to enrollment and revenue outcomes, such as enrollment growth, net tuition revenue contribution, cost-per-lead, cost-per-enrollment, yield, and marketing ROI.
  • Institutional Collaboration
    • Partner with the Division of Institutional Development and Community Prosperity and University Leadership to support fundraising, alumni engagement, and awareness campaigns through strategic marketing and communications.
    • Collaborate with Athletics to strategically leverage athletic programs and events, enhancing the university’s overall brand visibility.
    • Work with academic and administrative leaders on program launches, market expansion, and reputation-building initiatives that advance access and opportunity.
  • Brand Strategy and Governance
    • Oversee brand strategy, messaging, and governance to ensure a consistent and student-centered narrative that reinforces Maryville’s leadership in access, innovation, and outcomes.
    • Manage the marketing budget and external partners, ensuring responsible stewardship of resources and alignment with institutional priorities.
  • Team Leadership and Development
    • Build, lead, and develop a high-performing marketing organization grounded in collaboration, accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement.
    • Collaborate with technology partners to oversee the marketing technology stack and data infrastructure, enabling performance insights and operational excellence.

Qualifications

  • Required Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities
    • Minimum of 10 years of progressive marketing leadership experience, preferably in higher education or a mission-driven organization.
    • Demonstrated success in enrollment or growth marketing, brand strategy, and digital performance marketing.
    • Strong analytical and strategic skills with the ability to translate data into action and results.
    • Proven experience leading teams, managing significant budgets, and influencing senior leaders and cross-functional partners.
  • Required Formal Education
    • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, business, or a related field required; master’s degree preferred.

Physical Demands

  • This role requires consistent on-campus presence and frequent participation in community-based activities as a leader advancing Maryville’s storytelling and brand visibility.
  • Availability during evenings and weekends is expected as needed to support events, campaigns, and key initiatives.
