Job Description

The Office of the Chief Operations Officer (COO) seeks a digital and social media specialist to support its wide-ranging marketing and communications efforts. A skilled communicator with the ability to create engaging content and foster community interaction, the digital and social media specialist will report to the Assistant Director of Marketing and Communications and work collaboratively as part of a dynamic marketing unit. This position is responsible for developing and executing strategic social and digital media outreach to the broader University community, including students, faculty, staff, families, and guests. The role will develop content for posting on all designated social media outlets, monitor peer and competitor presence/perceptions, report relevant analytics, and strive for consistent audience growth. In addition, this position is responsible for hiring and supervising a team of student brand ambassadors and assisting with the updating of all division websites; writing and creating content as needed. Collaborates closely with the University’s central communications and marketing staff to ensure messaging aligns with the University’s overarching communication and marketing plans, content strategy, and editorial calendar, and follows University brand standards (design, language, etc.), governance (digital, social media), and brand approach.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communication, graphic design, marketing or related field required.
  • Two (2) plus years of experience managing professional social media channels preferred.

Skills and Knowledge

  • Highly creative, with experience identifying target audiences and devising digital campaigns that engage, inform, and motivate.
  • Excellent communication skills, strong photography and videography skills.
  • Skilled social content creator, familiarity with all major social channels required.
  • Proficiency with Canva, the Adobe design suite, and content management systems preferred.
  • Must have impeccable judgement and be able to collaborate frequently with team members.

Responsibilities

  • Working with the Assistant Director of Marketing and Communications, create social and digital collateral for marketing campaigns, ensuring the content is consistent with the Office of the COO’s key messages and adheres to the University’s internal policies and brand guidelines.
  • Coordinate with the University colleagues and the enterprise-level social media team as needed to pitch stories and content to be shared on other University channels.
  • Increase overall brand awareness for units within the Office of the COO, as well as services offered within units to increase revenue growth.
  • Ensure a consistent brand voice and presence across all social media platforms.
  • Hire and coordinate a team of student interns and brand ambassadors; create weekly and monthly content plans for students to execute.
  • Review content produced by brand ambassadors.
  • Update and improve digital presence for all COO unit websites.
  • Ensure a consistent brand voice and presence across all websites.
  • Utilize analytics tools as needed to guide redesign and reorganization, optimizing company pages on various platforms,
  • Other position-related duties as assigned.
