POSITION SUMMARY: 

The UX Strategist and UI Designer is responsible for the user experience (UX), user interface (UI) design, functionality, content, and customer journey of the NYFA website; digital and UI design for marketing and advertising efforts; layout and coordination of enrollment marketing emails and landing pages; and general marketing support for enrollment-focused strategies and advertising efforts in multiple mediums (digital, web, video, social media, interactive, event, etc).

This role will primarily lead efforts to ensure that NYFA websites are current, easy to navigate, and optimized for the journey of multiple audiences with an emphasis on UX, UI design, customer/ student journey of the NYFA websites (nyfa.edu, hub.nyfa.edu), clear content and content coordination, and other UX-driven marketing and enrollment-focused strategies and media. This role is hands-on and will manage the day-to-day of website UX and updates, with a consideration for usability, SEO, clear content and visuals, and will make recommendations for user improvements that support enrollment. This position will also design and develop media for recruitment and marketing opportunities including emails, landing pages, digital ads, digital marketing outreach efforts, video ads and basic video editing, college guides, etc. This role will collaborate on cross-media efforts with other marketing channels including social media, advertising, PR, content, enrollment, print design, and web, and the broader NYFA community including faculty, students, and staff. 

Enrollment marketing experience and prior experience working in web and marketing for Higher Education is preferred.

The UX Strategist and UI Designer position is a full-time role within the Marketing Department on the New York City campus. This is a hybrid role with the requirement to be in-person on campus 1-2 days a week to capture content and collaborate with teammates.


Additional in-person days may be expected based on the schedule of events and activities (with advanced notice). This position reports to the Senior Director of Marketing.

REPRESENTATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES: 

The following responsibilities are general duties that a particular employee in this position is expected to be able to perform. The day-to-day duties required of this position may vary. 

  • Develop and refine UX strategies that align with organizational goals and user needs. Design interactions that enhance user engagement and improve overall user satisfaction.
  • “Own” the day-to-day oversight of website UX and UI design through hands-on website editing in WordPress (or similar), including layout, functionality, content flow, user interface, page elements & order, and all aspects related to User Experience and customer journey.
  • Regularly audit and review the website to make recommendations on improving user experience, content, navigation, and other aspects to support all NYFA goals, especially enrollment goals. Manage design and UX development from strategy through to website production.
  • Solid understanding of people-centered user experience and interaction patterns. Ability to apply analytical thinking about customer journeys and content flows to the website, email communication sequences, and marketing content – specifically, have a deep understanding of the Higher Ed prospective student journey and how to develop communication and content to engage with this audience from interest through to enrollment.
  • Oversight and creation of email marketing campaigns including layout design, strategy, email list logic and preparation of email lists through relevant audience segmentation, production, and deployment of emails (currently through Pardot / Salesforce), and adhere to an email sequence calendar that aligns with the enrollment cycle. Create drip campaigns and multi email sequence campaigns to engage various target audiences. Review email data to make recommendations for improvements.
  • Create digital ads, video ads, social media ads, email headers, and other digital marketing campaigns and assets, as needed.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate user experience design principles into all project development phases. Regularly collaborate with Web and Marketing staff to ensure all aspects of the website, landing pages, digital ads, blog, emails, apps, and other promotional materials are providing the best user experience and clear messaging for prospective students, and all audiences. Strategically create new media to attract and incentivize new users, audiences, and students.
  • Develop mockups, UX and creative direction, and recommendations for the web and marketing teams for the website, landing pages, emails, apps, and digital marketing based on UX best practices.
  • Support and improve SEO performance through UX principles, including using tools and reporting from Google Analytics and/or SemRush, coordinating with Marketing team and SEO consultants; and making recommendations for improvements. 
  • Collaborate on new and creative marketing strategies and ideas to address business goals and meet consumer needs, at times leading execution with others to deliver on initiatives.
  • Develop a monthly, quarterly, and yearly website review and email campaigns strategy and calendar, in collaboration with Senior Director of Marketing, that aligns with enrollment goals and admissions calendar, advertising campaigns, PR efforts, and social media themes.
  • Act as an internal point person to various departments for the website, website updates, and user experience-related projects to promote NYFA and raise brand awareness through a positive and strategic approach.
  • Review and collaborate on online college guide profiles (Niche.com & similar).
  • Maintain and evolve our brand and UX guidelines, and champion those resources across the company.
  • Multi-task to complete assignments under deadline, and make quick turnarounds on projects. Be able to independently prioritize projects and meet deadlines.
  • Supervise freelancers if/when needed.
  • Maintains industry knowledge, staying abreast of industry trends and best practices related to UX and digital design.
  • Supports special projects and other duties as assigned by management. 

KNOWLEDGE AND COMPETENCIES: 

  • Must have strong design and UX background and knowledge, specifically for websites
  • Must have strong knowledge of SEO, SEO Performance, & how to create written and visual content with user experience and SEO optimization in mind at all times for online content 
  • Experience in Higher Education, Education, or Online Learning; Strong knowledge of higher education student journey and enrollment marketing strategies required
  • Experience using content management systems (WordPress) and CRMs (Salesforce)
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Should have an interest in and basic knowledge of film, media, and performing arts
  • Flexible and agile thinking in an always evolving work environment, ability to problem solve and innovate 
  • Curiosity for new technologies and emerging digital marketing trends

EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Design, Marketing, UX Strategy, UX Design, UX Writing, Media, Advertising, Business, Communications and/or Technology, English, or related field. 
  • 5+ years developing and overseeing UX and design for websites, and developing content for web and marketing materials. 
  • Must have expert experience in WordPress, and hands-on experience in creating website design and front end interfaces
  • Must be proficient in User Experience (UX) Strategy, Design, and/or content creation for websites, landing pages, emails, and digital marketing 
  • Experience in Pardot and Salesforce or other similar CRM systems
  • Knowledge of UX and web reporting tools like Google Analytics, SemRush, HotJar, and/or Moz
  • Strong knowledge of SEO and SEO optimization for websites and online content. 
  • Experience working in a fast paced multi-tasking environment and delivering results that drive enrollment with attention to detail. 
  • Proficient in Design and Digital Media software
  • Proficient in Microsoft Suite and Google documents
